Egg Poacher – Stainless Steel Magic

My decade old stainless steel egg poacher was completely worn out beyond use and I simply had to replace it. It was back than then that I came across of the Fagor 4-Piece Egg Poacher Set at the mall and I simply purchased it for around $50. I am pleased to say that this is a very good kitchen tool and this is no surprise concerning the fact it was designed by Fagor. The name clearly states that it is a 4 cup model and going by that everybody would expect the whole poaching unit to be nonstick. You will notice that both the exterior and interior of the lid and the pan are made of stainless steel. And the base is made of aluminum for good heat distribution. On the other hand, the poaching cups are not left unprotected by the Teflon coating. And Teflon is a well known non stick material. But still you may have a little problem here.

As the egg poacher gets heated up Teflon may cause the fumes and weird chemical smell which alter the natural aroma of the egg. If the surface of the Teflon coating is damaged, then it is a problem. The bad smell sinks deep into the egg and you simply can’t escape it. But usually you want have these problems.
On the other hand, Teflon is a very good heat conductor, so it takes somewhere around 2 to 3 minutes for 4 eggs to be done and the poaching time is consistent.

Since the Teflon is a good heat conductor, by the time the egg gets heated up from the base of the cup, the steam wouldn’t started the poaching process from the top. The thing that happens is that top and bottom are poached evenly.



The stainless steel handle and knob never get heated up and is perfectly safe for you to use without a mitt. And one of my favorite features includes a break-resistant tempered glass lid which lets housewives supervise poaching progress. And just like many other good models it has handles on cups for simple removal from boiling water. Many housewives will be pleased to know that both the lid and pan are safe to wash in a dishwasher.



Overall, this egg poacher is an extremely high quality kitchen tool. It makes a good job of poaching eggs. The glass lid lets you see the poaching process and, best of all, it is ventilated.
